Edge slats and veneer edging in Plywood

Coated plywood panels give furniture a high-quality appearance. If an alternative to a plywood panel is desired, kitchen, furniture and interior designers can use real wood edging to "transform" a panel into one with the appearance of solid plywood. Ostermann supplies plywood edging directly from stock.

From designer furniture in the office or living room to robust furniture in the children's room - coated plywood panels offer the kitchen, furniture and interior designer plenty of possibilities. One of the reasons for the popularity of the surface is its multilayer optics. This gives furniture a high-quality, warm appearance. Further treating the surface with stain, oil or lacquer creates a real eye-catcher. However, the desired look can also be achieved with a particleboard combined with real wood veneer plywood. This is particularly useful when plywood panels are not readily available or are too pricey for a project. Edges are available directly from stock at Ostermann in beech and birch wood species, in various widths and thicknesses. Upon request, the edges are also available pre-glued with hot-melt adhesive or prepared for processing with various zero joint technologies. Those who want to save time order the edgings directly together with the other materials, such as furniture fittings, installation items and workshop supplies. More information on the variants can be found via the search term "#Highlights06" on the Ostermann website www.ostermann.eu.

The creative solution

Depending on quality requirements, application and budget, there are several ways to achieve the plywood look. An MDF or chipboard can be given a high-quality finish by first applying a solid real wood edge in plywood look and then covering the board with an HPL or Furniture Linoleum surface. Ostermann has the 2.65 mm thick edge lath for this purpose. Veneer lace original Plywood Birch, sanded in the range. The lace is available in two widths (23 and 43 mm) with a length of 4000 mm. On both sides, the lace has a milling edge of 4 mm, providing sufficient space for radius machining.

The practical solution

On the other hand, it is faster and more economical to apply a classic plywood veneer edge (on roll) to an already coated board. The veneers are available from Ostermann directly from stock in birch and beech in 4 widths (24, 30, 33 and 43 mm) and 3 thicknesses (0.5 mm, 1 mm and 2 mm). Kitchen, furniture and interior builders who cannot machine glue the veneer edge can order the 0.5 mm variant pre-glued with hot-melt glue from Ostermann directly from stock. The other two thicknesses (1 and 2 mm) are primed. These thicknesses are also available on request from Ostermann with hot-melt adhesive or suitable for use with zero joint technology.

Birch or beech?

The plywood veneers Birch and Beech differ not only in wood type, but also in appearance. The individual stripes (layers) on the Birch veneer sides are more irregular and fine, and on the other hand, on Beech veneer they are slightly wider, distinctly straighter and tighter. Both sides are delivered with a sanded surface directly from stock and are given their final color and effect by the surface finish.

Practical accessories

For edge processing, Ostermann also supplies the appropriate accessories, including white glues and hot melt adhesives. For manual gluing of edgings, Ostermann's experts recommend using the white glue REDOCOL Kombicoll Super-N D3. Ostermann offers a wide range of products from leading brands for edge gluing and veneering using an edge gluing machine. High-quality, cost-effective products are available under the REDOCOL quality brand developed by Ostermann.
