Distinction through ease of use

Seeing is believing, they say. This certainly applies to Maiburg's Loba finishing products. Although these products were developed for floors, according to the company they are also very suitable for solid wood and veneered furniture. Maiburg likes to show this by means of a demonstration, such as recently during the GN Lace Technology Days.

A good end result starts with good preparation. Therefore, in addition to Loba finishing products, technical advisor Dennis Venema also showed sia Abrasives sanding materials. They can both be found in Maiburg's product range. "Sometimes sanding materials leave deep scratches, which does not benefit the end result," Venema begins. "With the Sianet sanding disc, this is not the case. The ceramic grit ensures a perfect result and the dust is removed very well. The result: the fibers of the wood are open, so the oil can soak into this even better." 

Pretone amplifies or changes color

The sanded surface can then be finished in different ways, with a lacquer or with oil. However, it is also still possible to pre-stain the furniture. "Loba Pretone is a water-based pigment stain, which can enhance or change the color of the oil. There are five different colors of Pretone and nineteen colors of Lobasol® HS 2K ImpactOil. By combining these, the color combinations are virtually limitless." According to Venema, one of the distinguishing features of the Loba products is their extremely long processing time. "You can therefore easily work ahead, it is no problem to let oil rest for some time, with a cloth the oil residues can still be easily removed afterwards without leaving a dark spot."

Varnish that radiates untreated wood

Venema also says the lacquers are definitely easy to process. "With other water-based paints, a deposit is quickly visible, but this is not the case with the Loba products. This is a big advantage. In addition, of the Lobadur® 2K Invisible Protect AT lacquer, two coats are sufficient, whereas many lacquers have to be applied in three coats. So that saves a lot of time!" The lacquer is virtually invisible, so that the natural appearance and structure of the wood are preserved. At the same time, the user benefits from an extremely scratch-resistant finish. "We also offer an anti-slip lacquer, which is especially suitable for use on stairs."

At the Lace Technology Days, Maiburg showed another clever solution that will please many furniture makers. "To break edges, sanding blocks are often made from a glued panel with sandpaper that is then cut small. This could be better! So we made a set containing a block, fitted with double-sided tape and, of course, our sandpaper in the right size. It can then be used at least 15 times, before the joiner can simply apply a new piece of tape and sandpaper. This is how we help craftsmen advance in their work."
