Home remodeling or a CNC milling machine? That was the question for Frank and Marleen van de Waerdt. Frank actually knew the answer, but Marleen had yet to be convinced. Two years ago they attended the orientation morning 'CNC machining' at De Groot Bewerkingsmachines. The result? The house still has single glass, but at this year's orientation morning the couple told about the Biesse Rover A CNC milling machine, which they have been working with for almost a year now.
From the age of fourteen, Frank has been active in interior construction. At age twenty-five, he set up his own company and so Van de Waerdt Interieurbouw became a reality. In 2020 (partly) thanks to corona, a huge demand for Frank and Marleen's interiors arose. The company was growing and at the same time Frank's need for a CNC machine arose. Together Frank and Marleen visited the orientation morning and during the demonstrations it became increasingly clear which machine they needed. Now Marleen is actually starting to itch: should they postpone the renovation? In the end, they choose the Biesse Rover A CNC milling machine. To the 30 people who visited this year's meeting Marleen told: ""A Fiat Panda drives well. But ... you'd rather be in a Ferrari, right?"
Kirsten van Beerendonk of De Groot Machining Machinery says, "It was pleasantly busy again this year, and we were pleased that the group dared to ask many questions. That is sometimes exciting when you are on site with your fellow competitors, but our product specialists were also able to speak to everyone individually for specific questions."
ProfLease was also present. De Groot works with this company, among others, when it comes to financing a machine. "We noticed that there were a lot of questions about this, because it is obviously a big investment. Fortunately, in addition to making a purchase, a lease-
construction possible."
Back to Frank and Marleen's story for a moment. In May 2022, the new CNC machine is installed. Frank takes into account several months of start-up time, but already after three weeks they are running their normal production on the CNC machine. After the construction period, there are even gaps in the schedule already.
Still every day Frank enjoys the peace of mind the machine has brought. Van Beerendonk: "We noticed that the visitors of the orientation morning were very curious how many days the machine runs at Van de Waerdt Interieurbouw. At this company the machine is not used all week, they mainly chose a CNC because the Biesse milling machine makes it possible to work with millimeter precision, this way they can guarantee the high quality of the final product."
So a CNC machine saves time. Operations are faster and workers can do another job while machining. So with a CNC machine, more work can be done with fewer hands. "However, good personnel are still needed to turn parts into beautiful products and place them at the customer's site," says Van Beerendonk. "So there's a good chance that, especially in the beginning, you won't get the maximum capacity out of the machine. This is where the platform Cutr comes in. This connects designers and architects with production companies in the wood industry. It is ideal for filling excess capacity quickly."
