Restaurant De Bakermat unites culinary excellence with thoughtful design

Passion and authenticity. This is reflected not only in the dishes of Restaurant De Bakermat. The interior also reflects these values. At De Bakermat in the heart of Ninove, chef Kevin Graf and hostess Barbara Wantens have been creating their culinary dreams since 2014. The result? A Michelin-starred restaurant where design and gastronomy effortlessly meet.

Such is the thinking behind The Bakermat. In 2013, Barbara and Kevin bought a notary's house and converted it into the restaurant. "We kept the authentic character," Barbara explains. So much of the villa remained in its original state: the white marble fireplace, the window sills, the real parquet floors.

In 2018, the restaurant underwent a major transformation, one specific change that would have a lasting impact: the choice of Coretec^®-floors. "The authentic parquet floors were beautiful, but in a busy restaurant you quickly see signs of use," Barbara says. "Wine stains, grease spots, intensive walking - it became increasingly difficult to keep the floors in good condition." They therefore chose Coretec^® and had it installed on top of the existing floor.

The result? "Stunning," Barbara agrees enthusiastically. The design of the Coretec^®-flooring is therefore lifelike, a true replica of nature. "Many guests ask if it's real parquet. They even touch the floor to check it out - and that says a lot." The long planks create a luxurious atmosphere that perfectly matches the interior of the restaurant.

But it's not just the looks that convince. They also clearly notice the practical benefits after six years of use. "Twice a year we thoroughly clean the grooves. The floor immediately looks like new again!" explains Barbara. "The ease of maintenance is crucial for us as a restaurant." In terms of acoustics, the team also noticed a marked improvement.

Convinced by the success at the restaurant, Barbara and Kevin also installed Coretec at home^®-floors. "At home we chose a combination of long planks and a herringbone pattern." says Barbara enthusiastically. "Really very beautiful. It comes highly recommended for both private and professional use.
