That Solid Surface is a very versatile material is well known by now. However, more and more treatments are possible in order to create special custom interiors. Patternine is a striking development in this regard. This technique adds complex, three-dimensional structures to Durasein® Solid surface and offers virtually endless creative possibilities. Binnenwerk spoke with Frank Peters, product specialist at DecoLegno and Maik Idzes, commercial director of Cora Techniek, about the power of Patternine and the innovative collaboration between the two companies.
Patternine is an innovative technique involving complex milling in the material Durasein®. These routings range from fluid, almost hypnotic structures to tight geometric patterns, and everything in between. "It's a product that really offers opportunities to create something unique," Peters said. "With Patternine, you can realize designs that were previously unthinkable in Solid Surface materials."
Solid surface materials such as Durasein® are already known for their seamless finish and thermal deformability, but Patternine further expands the creative possibilities. "Designers are challenged with Patternine to think beyond traditional applications," Idzes adds. "From reception desks with milling treatments to accent walls and even entire lobbies, the possibilities are endless."
With more than 150 different patterns, Patternine offers a wide range of design options. "And if a customer wants their own design milled, that's possible too," Idzes explains. "We then rewrite the design for the CNC machine so that it is technically feasible. This allows us to deliver truly custom designs. The great thing is that each design can be adapted to the specific dimensions of the project. That gives not only a visual wow effect, but also technical perfection."
For the technical execution of the milling, DecoLegno works exclusively with Cora Techniek. In this, DecoLegno and Durasein supply the plates and designs, while Cora Techniek takes care of the realization. "We have the necessary machines, knowledge and experience to bring any idea to life. Whether it's flowing lines or complex geometric shapes, we make sure that the milling is done precisely, so that the end result is always impressive."
The collaboration between DecoLegno and Cora Techniek is critical to Patternine's success. "From the moment we started working with Durasein®, we knew we wanted to work with Cora Techniek," says Peters. "They are the experts in Solid surface and have proven time and again to deliver high-quality results."
Idzes agrees: "Our cooperation with DecoLegno is based on mutual trust and a shared vision. We want to offer something unique, and with Patternine we can actually do that. We see more and more opportunities to use Patternine in larger projects, such as hotel interiors or retail concepts."
One of the challenges in commercializing Patternine is visualizing its capabilities. "Architects and designers often want to see what is possible before making a choice," Peters explains.
"That's why we have a permanent installation of Patternine in our DecoLegno showroom in Westzaan. It is important to experience the material in real life, to see the depth of the milling and to feel how the light plays with the patterns. We have already had a lot of positive reactions to the test panels we showed there at events such as Design District and Architect@Work. But you have to see it in practice to fully appreciate it. We are seeing more and more companies discovering the power of Patternine. It is a product that is not only functional, but can also make a visual statement. The possibilities are truly endless."
