Surfaces with spectacular effects, beautiful high gloss or a shimmering metallic look: the wide range of furniture lacquers from the Austrian paint and lacquer manufacturer ADLER makes all design wishes come true. But let's face it: during everyday work in the furniture industry, such lacquers are used less frequently. The demand is much greater for a solid lacquer that is easy to use, efficient, universal and also produces a beautiful end result. In other words, a lacquer that can do everything. Fortunately, ADLER also has that lacquer in its range: Bluefin Unistar, a water-based furniture lacquer for all applications.
That water-based paints are good for people and the environment is beyond dispute. For a long time, however, these paints had a reputation for being difficult to apply and taking a long time to dry. Also, the surface would be sensitive. Bluefin Unistar now dispenses with these prejudices: This water-based paint is just as pleasant to use as conventional solvent-based paints.
This is because the paint can be applied directly to all common types of wood, including oak - and that in both 1K and 2K. In 2K processing, Bluefin Unistar scores high with an extremely long open pot life of up to three days. The lacquer remaining on Friday can thus be used even after the weekend. Thanks to improved drying, the lacquer can also be sanded after just one to two hours and is stackable after drying overnight. The final surface is also of excellent quality: the high filling power, good highlighting and high transparency provide strong protection against scratches and stains. The surface looks impeccable and feels pleasant to the touch.
"At ADLER, we have been intensively involved in waterborne paints for industry for forty years," says Leon Cremers, director of ADLER Benelux in Heeze, Brabant. "With the help of this experience, we have been able to develop a beautiful total product that is unique in this form."
Indeed, Bluefin Unistar is as efficient as an industrial product - and at the same time so pleasant and flexible to use that it is also suitable for almost any application in smaller businesses.
Those who use Bluefin Unistar also do their part for a better environment. This is because the lacquer has an excellent eco-balance with a VOC content of less than 3%. In addition, fewer raw materials are used during paint production. For this, Bluefin Unistar was the very first furniture lacquer to receive the Austrian eco-label.
Waterborne paints are a growing part of ADLER's product line. The company places a high priority on sustainability. Since 2018, ADLER has therefore been one of the first companies in its industry to be 100 percent climate neutral. With the help of a host of measures, the company has been able to minimize its carbon footprint. In addition, it offsets unavoidable residual emissions through recognized climate protection certificates and thus contributes to financing new climate protection projects.
"Many furniture makers still rely on solvent-based paints because they are said to be easier to apply," Cremers explains. "With Bluefin Unistar, we can now offer a water-based product that is just as user-friendly, and also good for the environment."
Waterborne paints are the future, says Cremers: laws and regulations regarding solvent-based products are likely to become stricter, and customer demand for ecological and sustainable products will also increase. Those who anticipate this now and commit to environmentally friendly materials and processes will benefit.
"Bluefin Unistar is therefore the ideal product to switch to this sustainable coating technology."
